Answer the two questions about chapter 1!
There are two examples of a father-son relationship. What are they? What similarities are there? What are differences?
The chapter beginns with two deaths and ends with a description of a dead moth. Find out the links!

1)
On the one hand there is the father-son relationship between Joseph Hooper and his son Charles Kingshaw and on the other hand there is the ralationship between Jospeh Hooper and his father. Both have problems with their relationship. Joseph and his father don’t want to live together as Mr Joseph Hooper refused to live at Warings until his father will be dead. This definitively shows, that there must me something wrong. Edmund and his father also have some kind of problem. In my opinion it’s some sort of communicational problem, as Hooper very often does not tell his father what he really thinks about something. When his father tolds him, that he was going to find a friend for him and some person to look for them, Edmund only thinks that he wants to be alone and that he does not want to have any other boy in the house. He never tells his father. A difference is that Edmund is kind of clumsy as he calls his father’s father a “dead old moth”, whereas his father himself tries to be as respectful as possible, as he will die soon.

2)
Im my opinion the dead persons and the moths are somehow linked. I even believe that they are supposed to create the impression, that “death” is attached to Warings or to the Hooper family. The have been two death persons, one person is almost dead and there are thousands of dead moths. But in my opinion there are not many links between the two dead persons and the description of the moth.
So I think that maybe I should check the description of the dying grandfather and the dead moth for links, because there really are a lot of links! The sick room smells sour and ugly and the glass box the dead moths are kept in smells ugly, too. Both look greyish and pale and both sooner or later turn into dust and are forgotten.
