Boulder , Colorado – The Sports town

„The sports town“ - that's what Outside Magazine called our city, and thats what it is. Boulder, Colorado, less than one hour from Denver by car, at the foot of the Rocky mountains, is perfect for running, walking and biking. Top sportspeople come here to train at high altitude.German running stars for example, picked Boulder as there home and training ground.
But local people are fit too. Look in a Bouder garage and you'll often find different sorts of bikes, skis, perhaps a boat, ropes (for climbing in the Flatiron Mountains) , inline skates, backpacks , and, of course , lots of running shoes.Boulder has more active people and fewer couch potatoes than most other cities in the USA.
There are more than 75 miles of biking paths in Boulder, so bikers can go everywhere. Biking is so important here that sometimes the city clears the snow from the bike paths before it clears the streets.
Why's Boulder so popular with outdoor types? Some say it's the mountains. Or the weather. Colorado has more hours of sunshine than any other state , including Carlifornia!Or it's the 100 miles of hiking trails and the famouse Boulder Creek Path, just minutes from downtown. Or maybe it all started when Frank Shorter from Boulder became the first American who won the marathon, at the 1972 Munich Olympics. “When Frank won gold, everybody started runnin, “says one of the sports reporters at the Boulder Daily Camera.
